Applications Engineer Nuclear

Salary: Upto £45k based on experience


Main function of job:

A customer-facing role, reviewing sales inquiries and new product development opportunities to define performance specifications, costing models, and validation requirements. Ensure customer satisfaction through technical expertise and reliable/ innovative solutions, specifically by preparing technical content for business proposals and new product development opportunities while minimizing technical and/or commercial risks.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Review and interpret customer inquiries and market specification requirements.
  • Work with customers to gather application data and provide initial feasibility assessment and design concepts, including qualification and acceptance testing proposals.
  • Review opportunities provided by customers leading to bid/no bid decision.
  • Conduct technical assessment of proposed solutions to ensure the business is not exposed to unacceptable business risk
  • Produce detailed drawing packages—to include customer-approved drawings—as well as specification drawings and validation plans, as required.
  • Collaborate with the Market Manager – Nuclear to prepare technical and commercial proposals defining product specification and detailed costing models including Non-recurring and indirect costs.
  • Perform detailed analyses for designs to verify the maintenance of performance targets and conformance to established best practices.
  • As required, generate the necessary supporting data.
  • Liaise with the Production Engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing and planning to ensure efficient manufacturability of technical proposals.
  • Travels as needed to new and existing customers to support proposals and new opportunities plus exhibitions and conferences as appropriate

  • Develops solutions to engineering problems using new or existing technologies.
  • Complying with codes of conduct, codes of practice and the legal and regulatory framework
  • Commercial acumen

Tools/Equipment Used

  • AutoCAD / Inventor,
  • Word, Excel, Project
  • MathCAD, Finglow

Qualifications/Training Required

  • Degree qualification in a relevant technical or engineering discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in a technical role with a strong commercial focus
  • Experience in the Nuclear industry desirable
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read and understand drawings, specifications, and technical requirements
  • Ability to write technical documents, including proposals, test plans, procedures, and reports
  • Candidate should display a high level of enthusiasm, motivation, ambition, and a “can do” attitude
